Laws and Regulations
The Social Work Practice Act, Minnesota Statutes, Sections 148E.001 through 148E.290, is a state law passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor to regulate the practice of social work in Minnesota. The statute specifies the duties of the Board:
- who must be licensed to practice
- who is exempt from licensure
- initial licensing requirements for each of the four social work licenses
- license renewal
- continuing education and competence requirements
- standards for ethical and competent practice
- the Board’s authority to investigate complaints and take action regarding social workers’ licenses
